Landlord threatening eviction due to Christmas decorations.?

          Sunday, July 10th, 2011

The owner of my apartment is threatening to evict tenants for putting Christmas lights and/or decorations on our balconies. However, our lease states "No sign, advertisement, antenna, or other item, except reasonable seasonal decoration, may be hung, erected, or otherwise placed on the exterior of the unit or in the common area." Can this legally be done without a new lease agreement?
This is the 3rd Christmas that I have lived in these apartments. This is the first year that this has been an issue. I have decorated my balcony exactly the same way I have the previous two years.
