How To Take Good Care Of Your Sports Watch
Wednesday, March 10th, 2010These days, some time pieces provide you more with just time-telling functions. There are sports watches that let you enjoy functions like a countdown timer, chronograph, compass and others. Such are suitable for those who engage in sports, or simply like sophisticated gadgets.
But just because they’re designed to be worn by those with active lifestyle doesn’t mean they don’t require TLC. Just like regular timepieces, they need some maintenance and caring needs. The lifespan of a sports watch will also depend on how the wearer treats it.
Sure there are replacement straps easily purchasable at timepiece stores or on the net. But proper caring of your wristwatch’s straps will make them last for a long time. For polyurethane straps, you can use damp cloth for cleaning. Cleaning them with soft-bristled toothbrush, soap and water will also be okay. Refrain from exposing them to extreme changes in temperature.
Aside from plastic material, some sports watches have leather straps. Caring for its strap is pretty much the same as a typical leather watch requires. Even if it’s designed to be worn for sports or vigorous activities, TLC must be given to it. Minimize direct exposure to sunlight. Immediately pat with a cloth and let air dry after getting it wet with sweat or seawater.
Even if your timepiece is shock-resistant, it doesn’t mean you can be careless with it. Never put it to the test by dropping it or shaking it vigorously. Its shock-absorbing parts also come with certain limitations. That’s why it’s best to avoid it exposing it to unnecessary vibrations, bumps, etc.
A scratch-proof graphic lcd is not something that’s shatter-proof. If you hit it hard against a protruding metal, concrete or any hard object, of course it will break. You can use either a dry or damp cloth for cleaning. But do avoid using harsh solvents or chemicals. Also, keep it from extreme heat or cold.
One way of telling if the battery is running out is if your wristwatch is giving you an inaccurate time reading. Also, the led backlight flickers or dims. Smacking the timepiece with your palm or hitting it against your lap won’t extend the battery life. Instead, bring it to an expert for battery replacement.
Something that’s water resistant is definitely not water proof! Water resistant watches mean its okay for them to get occasional splashes of water. What you can use for swimming are those that are water proof. If you own one that’s water proof, it’s best to read the manual to know just how far you can get it wet.
